The monasteries are still active till today.
All of them are open for a visit but all the visitors, Greeks and foreigners should keep in mind that they will come to a place where still monks and nuns live.
During the visit of the monastery all we have to be properly dressed.

 

APPROPRIATE CLOTHING IT MEANS:

  • Sleeveless clothing and shorts over the knee for men and women are prohibited and you‘ll be denied access if dressed that way.
  • Women cannot enter the monastery with trousers , they need a skirt ( or a scarf ).
  • At the entrance some of the monasteries give a scarf for the women but some of the monasteries they sell one.

There are two main routes that one can follow to Meteora.

The first, starting from KALABAKA is to pass through Kastraki and continue to Meteora, depending on the monastery he wants to visit.
The second is, as someone comes from Trikala, at the entrance of the city to take direction to Meteora.
For those who will come by car, there are some auxiliary signs.

DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS there is also a KTEL bus service to Meteora, quite often and anyone can go to the monasteries by bus. The visitor who will not come by car also has the option to take a Taxi from Kalambaka.
